Best beaches Guadeloupe

When we say Guadeloupe, we inevitably think of Beach, and rightly so because there is no shortage of them in our archipelago. They are numerous, diverse and varied. Large or small, calm or agitated, frequented or not... We have drawn up an overview of the beaches in Guadeloupe, and not just those that are known to visitors or guides.

Beaches Grande Terre Guadeloupe

In Grande Terre, the beaches of Sainte Anne are unmissable. La Caravelle, Bois-Jolan, the beach of the village are very beautiful. Protected by a coral reef and a shallow lagoon, they are suitable for families with children. As a result, they are also very busy, especially in the tourist season. Parking is not always easy.

In Moule, the beach of l'Autre bord, des Alizés or the small beach of Montal are pleasant, although exposed to the Atlantic Ocean.

Still in Grande Terre, the beaches of Port-Louis will seduce you. Le Souffleur or Pointe d'Antigue, protected by the Grande Terre, offer calm waters and shaded and equipped places for picnics. A little higher up, at Anse Bertrand, La Chapelle beach is wilder with its beautiful coconut grove, but also more frequently exposed to the swell.

At Morne-à-l'Eau, Babin beach is little known to tourists, but very popular with locals who like to slather their bodies with the sulfurous mud of the seagrass, known for its benefits for the skin.

Note that, for several years, the exposed coasts to the east and south of the island (Gosier, Sainte Anne, Saint François, Le Moule) have been regularly subjected to strandings of algae called "sargassum", which then makes the beaches much less attractive. Beach lovers then fall back on the unexposed beaches of Port-Louis or Basse Terre.

Basse Terre Beaches Guadeloupe

Basse Terre is best known to hikers for its tropical forest. But it is also full of magnificent and wild beaches.

In Sainte Rose, the beaches of Mambia, Les Amandiers, Anse des Îles are mostly frequented by locals. Ideal for picnics and family barbecue lunches, they are also accessible by the coastal hiking trail that goes from Mambia to the town of Deshaies - allow about 4 hours of walking. The trail then passes by all the beaches of North Basse Terre, from Sainte Rose to Deshaies. Anse des îles, Cluny, Tillet, La Perle, Rifflet, Gadet, Grande Anse...

If you follow the English series Death in Paradise, it is in Deshaies that most of the scenes are filmed. During filming, you will see, for example, the inspector's small Creole hut on the beach between La Perle and Rifflet.

If you are not too keen on walking, the walk from Mambia to Pointe Allègre, the landing place of the first settlers in 1635, is very pleasant and can be done in about 2 hours round trip.

Then, from Deshaies towards Pointe Noire, the beaches of Petite Anse and Ferry are the last with white sand, or rather pink. Further south, the coral coast becomes volcanic, with black sand or pebble beaches. Plage Caraïbe, Anse Colas, Malendure, the hot springs of Thomas in Bouillante....

Continuing in the south of Basse Terre, you will find other black sand beaches. The small beach of Rocroy and the beach of the pond in Vieux Habitants have their charm, that of Rivière-Sens, near the marina is pleasant and lively. Going up the windward coast of Basse Terre, you find yourself on the Atlantic side, more agitated. Grande Anse Beach in Trois-Rivières is worth a look, with its magnificent view of Les Saintes. Going up this coast, Roseau Beach in Capesterre-Belle-Eau is popular with locals who like to picnic there with their families.

Beaches of Guadeloupe: the opinion of visitors to Jaden Kreyol

Many visitors to our Jaden Kreyol cottage tell us that while the life-size "postcard" beaches of Sainte Anne are magnificent, they often prefer the wild beaches and coast of Basse Terre, which are also much less crowded. That said, the central location of our cottage allows you to visit all of Guadeloupe without traveling too many kilometers, and to see a maximum of things in a minimum of time. The cottage is less than 30 minutes from Gosier, Bouillante and Deshaies, and 5 minutes from the entrance to the Guadeloupe National Park. Sainte Anne is 40' away, Saint François and Port Louis are about 50' away. During the week, our geographical location allows you to travel against the traffic jams of Grande Terre. This is also confirmed by the reviews left by our visitors.
